Meet Brittney Anderson
Brittney Anderson is a Philadelphia based director, playwright and theatre artist. Hailing from South Florida, Brittney loves to bring a little bit of sunshine and a lot of heat into her work. Brittney is an innovative, politically driven and collaborative theatre maker with a passion for new work development.
In the works that she creates and collaborates on, she’s interested in exploring themes of death, autonomy, societal constructs, and feminism through the lens of absurdism, satire, cynical whimsy, and “in your face” politics.
Although her first passion is the development of new work with new voices, Brittney has always had a reverence for the classics that first introduced her to the arts. As a text-based artist, writers such as Tennessee Williams, Eugene Ionesco, Sarah Kane and Bertolt Brecht continue to be inspirations in her writing style and in the work she aims to facilitate. However, this admiration and often healthy frustration with these works, has sparked an interest in unpacking and understanding their time, place, and purpose in our world, and then adapting them and telling their story in our current environment.
Brittney is always looking to surround herself with enthusiastic and passionate collaborators, and strives to create and facilitate art that not only holds a mirror up to the world around us, but rather pokes, prods and questions us as to what it is we really want to see.
Brittney Anderson is a co-founder and lead artist of The Void Theatre Collective, to learn more about their work, and her involvement with The Void, check out their website. https://thevoidtheater.wixsite.com/mysite
